Richard J. McCarthy
74, passed away on May 22, 2011, from final stage Parkinson's Disease. Richard served in the
Air Force in Alaska during the Korean War. He and his wife, Carol, owned a cabin in Big Bear City
since 1980. Richard transferred to the Big Bear Lake Post Office in 1983 where he served
Moonridge and Boulder Bay residents until he retired in 1992. Richard then decided on a second
career, teaching English, and earned an adult teaching credential from the University of California
at Riverside. He was employed by the Bear Valley Unified School District until 2007. Richard also
volunteered at the Big Bear Lake Library in the Literacy Program. In March 2010, Richard and
Carol moved to Laguna Woods. Richard leaves behind his wife Carol; sister Judi; sister-in-law Fran;
nephew John; great nephew Devin; niece Sharon and great niece Erika. He was welcomed to
heaven by his brother, Jim. The family would appreciate donations to be made to the Michael J.
