John O. Roitsch
John O. Roitsch 76, passed on Jan. 30, 2011. Born Oct. 6, 1934, John retired to Big Bear in 1996
after living on a boat with his wife in King Harbor Marina in Redondo Beach for 20 years. He
served in the Navy and later became a computer analyst for an aircraft company for 36 years. He
loved the sea, loved to travel and there were so many more far away places he planned to see.
AKA 'the Dog Cookie Whisperer' of the Valley, he always carried dog cookies in his car and soon
dogs waited for him up and down the neighborhood streets.
John was a regular fixture and considered a part of the family at the Lumberjack Cafe for many
years. He had a way of connecting with people, be it with his smile, sense of humor, or fun stories.
He truly cared and it showed.
Although retired, John would stop by the job site to bring donuts to the AAA Builders. He was their
'QC man' and would not let the guys get away with anything. If you knew John, your life was blessed
with kindness, thoughtfulness, great times and more love than you knew what to do with. That was
just who he was - kind and loving, helpful and caring.
John leaves his wife, Therese, of 35 beautiful years; sister and brother in- law Nancy and John of
Torrance; sister-in-law Phyllis Roitsch of Greenwich, Conn., plus many nieces and nephews.
