Gerald (Jerry) Martin Schweitzer

A 40-year resident of Big Bear, passed away April 9, 2013. Gerald was born in Lowville, N.Y., Nov. 17, 1928.

He leaves his wife of 63 years, Gladys (Lyndaker) and four children; Jan Harriman, Marla (Tim) Bradfield, Brent (Terresa) Schweitzer, and Juliane (Alan) Maillet. There are 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Gerald has two brothers, C. Lewis (Audrey) Schweitzer, Lowville, N.Y., Clark (Alma) Schweitzer, Goshen, Ind., and two sisters, Barbara (Harold) Taube, Castorland, N.Y., Marie (Don) Savko, Hagerstown, Md.

Jerry earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Goshen College, Goshen, Ind., and a Master's degree from USC. Moving to California in 1959, he worked in social services and as a probation officer for San Bernardino County. He then went on to serve Big Bear and outlying areas as a Parole Agent II for Calif. Youth Authority.

For 15 years, he and his wife owned the Teddy Bear Restaurant and then continued with the Teddy Bear Square doll, miniature and toy shop. Jerry was known for his generosity and sense of humor. He enjoyed playing golf throughout the years with local friends. He played in many Youth Authority golf tournaments in Paso Robles, Calif. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A graveside service was held at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Apple Valley where burial took place. Pastor Don Foor and Pastor Roger Richer officiated.
