San Bernardino County

Sheila Ann Sloane

Sheila Ann Sloane
a bright, cheerful, hard-working woman loved by all, passed away quietly at Carson-Tahoe Regional Medical Center on Aug. 8, 2011. She was draped in a crocheted blanket of her own creation, and accompanied by two cheerful characters she knitted representing her positive approach to life.

Sheila was born Dec. 27, 1934, in Tulare, Calif. She graduated from Tulare High School as valedictorian, and received her BA from Cal State Dominguez Hills in 1971. She was the first female real estate appraiser for San Bernardino County, and a supervising appraiser in Big Bear Lake.

She was married to John Sloane on her birthday in 1989 by then judge Robert S. Drake of Big Bear Lake, John's boss. They moved to So. Lake Tahoe in 1997.

In addition to her husband, John, Sheila is survived by sister Linda Day, and sons James, Richard, Adrian, and Edward Duncan; as well as several grandchildren and cousins.

Sheila touched many lives. As a dear friend recently said, "She helped so many people find themselves over the years, and has lived a life of grace and gusto."

In lieu of flowers or gifts, Sheila's wish was that any donations be sent to the So. Lake Tahoe Cancer League, P.O. Box 17962, S. Lake Tahoe, Calif. 96151.
