Carol Mae Walton

Carol Mae Walton
87, went to be with the Lord on May 1, 2011. She was born Dec. 25, 1923, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Harry and Mae Hutchins. Carol came from a large family and had 4 siblings; Rose Ellen, Buddy, Hazel and Richard. On Feb. 27, 1943, she married the love of her life, Hamilton “Hammy” Walton. She was the proud mother of 3 children, Gary, Glenn and Gerry, raising her family in Los Angeles, Lakewood, and Artesia, Calif. She and her husband settled in Big Bear Lake for retirement.

Carol had many hobbies and especially enjoyed traveling, needlework, sewing, crocheting and knitting. However, what she enjoyed most in life was giving to others. Throughout her years, she gave her time freely including over 33,000 hours of service to Bear Valley Community Hospital. She was also a woman of strong faith and very active in the Big Bear Presbyterian Church. She also served as the president of the Misselaire Club in 1977.

Her thousands of hours of volunteer service never went unnoticed and Carol was recognized with many awards including the Bear Valley Community Hospital Certificate of Appreciation in 1992; the Soroptomist Woman of Distinction Award in 1999; the Certificate of Merit and Outstanding Volunteer Award from Bear Valley Hospital; the Health Fair Expedition Volunteer Award in 2000; 25 Years of Service Award from the Big Bear Woman’s Club in 2003; the San Bernardino County “Heart of Gold” Volunteer Award in 2005; the Lifetime Membership Big Bear Woman’s Club Award in 2005; a Certificate of Appreciation from the Bear Valley Senior Citizens in 2005 and 2006; a Certificate of Appreciation from the California Federation of Woman for 34 
years of service in 2007; the Special Service Award from the Bear Valley Community Hospital Auxiliary for over 20 years of faithful service in 2009, among many others. Despite her many accomplishments, Carol was loved by her family and friends for her countless acts of kindness and her deep affection for others.

Carol is survived by her children; Gary (Stacia) Walton, Glenn (Judy) Walton, and Gerry Walton; Grandchildren Shawna, Ginell, Randy, Nicole, Marci, Brian, Becky, Matthew and Megan; Great-grandchildren Lincoln, Kory, Alexis, Ashley, Daron, Jeremy, Branden, Brent, Brayden, Brynlie, Stetson, Shay Lee, Shyanne, Shane, and McKenna. Carol was preceded in death by her loving husband, Hamilton “Hammy” Walton, on May 4, 1998.

A Memorial to celebrate Carol’s life will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at 1 p.m., at the Cedar Lake Christian Camp in Scanland Hall, 1100 Mill Creek Road, Big Bear Lake, CA 92315. Pastor Rodger “Rog” Deukelman will be officiating. A reception will be held immediately following the Memorial.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 South Western Avenue; Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, 90275. Burial services will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Rodger “Rog” Deukelaman officiating. A reception will immediately follow burial services at the home of Gary and Stacia Walton, 1713 Brookhaven Ave., Placentia, CA.
