Patterson Irrigator, 09/15//2011, p 15 Katharine Rosasco Cox Oct. 30, 1918 — Sept.11, 2011 A funeral service will be Friday, Sept. 16, for Katharine R. Cox, who died Sunday, Sept.11, at her home on the Cox Ranch in Westley with her family at her side. Mrs. Cox, 92, was born in Sonora to Charles and Elizabeth Rosasco. Mrs. Cox attended Sonora High School, Modesto Junior College and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, where she received her bachelor’s degree and teaching credential. Her teaching career began at Washington Elementary School in Modesto during the World War II years. Mrs. Cox married William Stanley Cox on July 21, 1946, and the couple raised three children on the farm in Westley. Mrs. Cox served many years as an elected trustee on the Patterson Unified School District board. She helped lead in the unification of the district and was supportive of the modernization of school facilities to meet new California safety standards. She donated time to the Patterson Chapter of American Field Service Exchange Program and was a host mother for a year. She was also involved in the California Women for Agriculture. Mrs. Cox was also a member of the Federated Church in Patterson as a Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Cox is survived by her husband of 65 years, William S. Cox, of Westley; daughter, Susan C. Medeiros of Sonora; sons, Charles S. Cox and his wife, Sylvia, of Turlock and James P. Cox and his wife, Cathy, of Patterson; her sister, May Dambacher of Snelling; and six grandchildren. Visitation will be observed from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept.15, at Hillview Funeral Chapel, 450 W. Las Palmas Ave., in Patterson. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at the Federated Church, 45 S El Circulo, in Patterson. Burial will follow at Patterson District Cemetery, 10800 Highway 33. Instead of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Mrs. Cox’s name be sent to the Federated Church of Patterson, 45 S. El Circulo, Patterson, CA 95363; to the Hospice of Emanuel, 825 Delbon Ave., Turlock, CA 95382; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
