Patterson Irrigator, 03/17/2011, p 15 Robert (Bob) Eugene Hamson May 12, 1943 March 6, 2011 Bob Hamson passed away peacefully after an extended illness in Stockton, CA. at the age of 67. Born in Manhattan Beach, CA, Most of his childhood years were spent in Portland and Eugene, OR. Professionally, Bob followed in his father’s footsteps in the whole sale electrical field, working his way through sales to management and finally computer design. A handsome charmer, his bright wit, infectious smile, sense of adventure and boundless energy endeared him to many. He loved and appreciated all things of the natural world. An avid outdoorsman and fisherman, he cast his lines throughout the Pacific Northwest, Idaho, California and Mexico. A self taught sailor, he navigated the waters from Puget Sound, along the Oregon & California coastlines to the Baja and mainland Mexico. His beloved yacht, the Norska, became his home for a time, anchored in the Sacramento delta area. When he returned to dry land, the little town of Patterson, California became his home, where he resided for nearly 30 years. Bob had a deep appreciation for the world of literature, music and art. He was well read and could discuss many subjects in depth with great enthusiasm. He had a vast collection of vinyl records and tapes from the 50’s through today. Music was always playing in his home from jazz to soul to rock n roll to his all time favorite the Blues. His interests also ran to the ‘other worldly’, an amateur astronomer fascinated by the wonders beyond our planet. Bob was a passionate motorcyclist his entire life, from road trips on his Harley to the weekends spanning decades at the Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area where he also served as volunteer for the State of California Off Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division. He was a champion hill climber, sporting many trophies for his achievements. Bob was pre deceased by his mother, Helen and is survived by his father and step mother John & Yvonne Hamson of Eugene, OR and his sister, Judi Hamson and her life partner Randy Noyes, of Bend, OR We, his family, would like to thank the medical staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Stockton, CA, Adam Sanchez and Syanne Dominguez with Geriatric Home Care Specialists of Modesto, Mary Keaton & Laura Meyers and Cheryl Huckaby for their unfailing compassion and support, as well as the dozens of Bob’s friends and neighbors who all helped in so many ways. Celebrations of life will be held both at the Carnegie State park in California and on the McKenzie River near Eugene, OR
