Patterson Irrigator, 08/18/2011, p 12 Lucy ‘Carolyn’ Phillips Aug. 27, 1932 — Aug. 13, 2011 A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, Aug. 19, for Lucy “Carolyn” Phillips, who died Saturday, Aug. 13, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Belmont. Mrs. Phillips was born in San Mateo to Samuel and Lucy Goodhue. She attended San Mateo High School and graduated from San Jose State University with an art degree. Mrs. Phillips was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority and maintained contact with her sorority sisters throughout her life. She met her husband, Neil Phillips, through his cousin, Chuck Hiatt. They made their home in Patterson, where they raised their family. Mrs. Phillips had a lifelong love of art, taking classes at Modesto Junior College and continuing to sketch and watercolor. She treasured family vacations at Lake Tahoe and Carmel. Mrs. Phillips is survived by her daughters, Cindy Georgette, and her husband, Jerry, of San Carlos and Susan Foreman, and her husband, Barry, of Garden Grove; sons, Samuel Phillips, and his wife, Nitzi, of Los Gatos and Neil Phillips Jr., and his wife, Stacy, of Patterson; a sister in law, Ruth Boesch of Campbell; 13 grandchildren; and a great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Neil Phillips. Friday’s Mass will begin at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 1040 Alameda de Las Pulgas, in Belmont. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, 910 Oregon Ave., in San Mateo. Crippen & Flynn Carlmont Chapel, 1111 Alameda de Las Pulgas, in Belmont, will handle arrangements. Instead of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations in Mrs. Phillips’ name to the American Cancer Society, Catholic Charities or a charity of the donor’s choice.
