Patterson Irrigator, 05/19/2011, p 14 Garrett Ray Torres Nov. 28, 1989 — May 8, 2011 Services were this week for Newman resident Garrett Ray Torres, 21, who died May 8. Mr. Torres was born in Los Banos and lived in Patterson for 11 years before moving recently to Newman. He had worked two years as a real estate agent. After attending grammar school in Los Banos and Patterson, Mr. Torres attended Central Catholic High School in Modesto. He studied abroad in Spain for a year and was due to graduate in September with a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Phoenix. He was on the Association of Realtors board and enjoyed sightseeing, traveling, remodeling and decorating and designing projects. He especially enjoyed time with his family. Mr. Torres is survived by his father, Jose Torres, and his wife, Cindy, of Newman; mother, Tracie Bracken, and her husband, Steve, of Patterson; brothers, Chris Torres of Newman and Tanner Torres of Patterson; sister, Kaylyn Bracken of Patterson; and his maternal grandparents. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday, May 16, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and burial was private. Hillview Funeral Chapel of Patterson handled arrangements. Patterson Irrigator, 05/12/2011, p 5 Garrett Torres Patterson Man Found in San Joaquin River The Merced County Coroner’s Office has identified a man whose car plunged into the San Joaquin River as 21 year old Garrett Torres of Patterson. Torres’ car went off the road just after 1 a.m. Sunday, according to his employer, Heidi Vento of Global Trend Real Estate. California Highway Patrol officers called for divers early Sunday morning but it was determined to be too dangerous for divers to attempt a recovery until daylight, according to Merced County Sheriff spokesperson Tom McKenzie. Torres’ body was recovered by Merced County Sheriff’s divers Monday afternoon, May 9.
