Margaret Allen Bakker
Dec. 24, 1917 � Jan. 6, 2007
A memorial service will be Saturday for former Patterson resident Margaret Allen 
Bakker, 89, who died Jan. 6 at Creekside Healthcare Center in San Pablo.
Mrs. Bakker was a longtime resident of El Cerrito and Hercules. Born in 
Berkeley, she was raised in Patterson, where she attended grammar school and 
graduated from Patterson High School in 1935.
Mrs. Bakker attended college at University of California, Berkeley. She married 
Harold Bakker on May 27, 1939, and together they raised four sons. After his 
death in 1970, she became a teacher and spent many years teaching math and 
science to middle school students. 
In more recent years, Mrs. Bakker continued to work for a variety of federal and 
state offices. She retired at age 80 and then spent more time pursing her 
favorite activities, including gathering with cousins and friends, reading and 
especially spending time with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Bakker is survived by her sons, Douglas Bakker and his wife, Kolinda, of 
Grass Valley, Glen Bakker, and his wife, Sue, of El Cerrito, Bruce Bakker and 
his wife, Zusita, of Albany and Alan Bakker of Richmond; brothers, Walton Allen 
and Allister Allen, both of Patterson; six grandchildren; 11 
great-grandchildren; and cousin and longtime friend Laurel Thurgood of Hercules.
Saturday�s memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. at El Cerrito Senior Center, 
6500 Stockton Ave., in El Cerrito. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Bakker�s name 
may be sent to Boy Scout Troop 104, c/o Robert Fabini, El Cerrito High School, 
540 Ashbury Ave., El Cerrito 94530.
