Barber Douglas O 980127 p3 Douglas Oliver Barber, 59; A man who grew up in Patterson has died in Alabama. Douglas Oliver Barber, a California native, died Monday, Jan. 19, at age 59. He had lived in Magnolia Springs, Ala,, the past 20 years. He lived here from 1942 to 1956 when he graduated from Patterson High School. He then graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in zoology and served four and a half years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served as a pilot with Pan American Airways for 25 years, also operating farms in California and Alabama. After retirement he owned and operated a book store in Foley, Ala, He was a 30-year Rotarian serving as president of his club in Foley and as district governor in 1996- 7. He was a recent recipient of a multiple Paul Harris Fellowship. He was active in his community, including the fire department, Baldwin Chamber of Commerce. He also was active in Magnolia Springs where he lived, serving as president of the community association their. He also served with the civilian air patrol in Baldwin County. A memorial service was held Friday at the Foley United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Anne Barber of Magnolia Springs, Ala.; a son, Thien Van Vu of Pensacola, Fla,; two daughters, Dawn Folmar of Montgomery, Ala., and Any Lawrence of Lexington, Ky.; three grandchildren; and a sister, Leilani Vaughn of Manteca.
