Mayor s Father Dies in Gustine; Mass of Christian burial will be said this morning, Thursday, at 9:30 a.m. in the Holy
Ghost Catholic Church, Gustine for John V. Bettencourt Jr., 74, who died Monday in Gustine following a long illness.
Interment will be in Hills Ferry Cemetery, Newman. Bettencourt, a native of St. George, the Azores, had lived in Gustine
35 years.  He was the former owner and operator of the Bettencourt-Fantzia Market south of Gustine and a market in
Crows Landing.  He operated the Oldtimers Club in Gustine the past 15 years. He is survived by his wife, Emily of
Gustine; a son, Francis Bettencourt, mayor of Patterson; a daughter, Gloria Inaudi of Patterson; two brothers, Manuel V.
Bettencourt of Crows Landing and Joe V. Bettencourt of Patterson and six grandchildren.
