Rites Held for Maria Bettencourt; Longtime West Side resident Maria Bettencourt was buried Monday in Patterson
District Cemetery. She died last Wednesday at San Luis Convalescent Hospital in Newman following a long illness. She
was 93. The Rev. Jerry Herff officiated at the service at Hillview Funeral Chapel. She was a member of Sacred Heart
Catholic Church and S.P.R.S.I. A native of, the Azores, she had been a Patterson resident since 1946 when she moved to
this community from Crows Landing. Survivors include three nephews, Vasco Brazil of Turlock, George Brazil of
Patterson, and Fernando Brazil of Ceres.
