Mary D. Bettencourt, 86;  Final rites were held yesterday, Monday, in Newman for Crows Landing native Mary D.
Bettencourt.  She died last Wednesday at her Newman home. She was 86.  She lived in Newman most of her life arid was
a homemaker. She attended St. Joachim s Catholic Church where a Mass was celebrated Monday morning. Burial was in
Hills Ferry Cemetery in Newman.  Hillview Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.  Survivors include a son,
Edward John Bettencourt, and a daughter, Mary D. Alves, both of Newman; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren,
and one great-great grandchild; a brother, Joe Vargas of Newman; and three sisters, Madeline Correia, Bernice Matteri,
and Evelyn Vargas, all of Patterson.  Remembrances should be sent to Visiting Nurse Association of the Central Valley,
