Biles Milton D 680919 np Modesto Man Is Drowned In Canal; The body of Milton David Biles, 73, of Modesto, an engineer with the Modesto & Empire Traction Co., was found at 8 am, Tuesday floating in the Delta-Mendota Canal at the Marshall Road crossing of the canal about 12 miles south of where he apparently went in. The drowned man was found by Mel Weatherred, field man for Del Puerto Supply here. Deputies surmised that Biles' Brittany Spaniel, Rusty, of whom friends said he was very fond, fell into the canal, and that his owner removed his clothing and attempted to save him. The last time the engineer was seen alive was at 10 am Saturday when a canal rider saw him fishing. The dog was pulled from the canal about 8 pm Saturday by a dove hunter and his wife of Tracy. The unidentified couple said the dog was scarcely alive. Bile's blue pickup truck was found by sheriffs officers at McCraken and Hamilton Roads. The officers said they found fishing tackle, false teeth and the engineer s wallet containing $124 near the truck. The body was taken to Salas Bros. Mortuary in Modesto.
