Blakely Harold 830714 np Harold Blakley Dies after a Long Illness; A graveside service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Patterson District Cemetery for the Rev. Harold Blakley who died Saturday at Del Puerto Hospital after a long illness. He was 71 years old. Blakley was a native of Kansas and settled in Santa Cruz before coming to Patterson in 1967. He was a retired colonel in the United States Air Force chaplaincy and also served in the California National Guard. chaplaincy. He was chaplain to VA hospitals in the Bay Area. Blakley was ordained a deacon in Boston in 1937 and was ordained an elder in the Southern Indiana Conference. He was the second Protestant chaplain at Castle Air Force Base. He served as minister in churches in Indiana, Hughson, Oakland, Merced, Santa Cruz, Selma, Chowchilla, Le Grand and at the Federated Church in Patterson. Blakley retired in 1975 but still was active in the ministry in local area churches. He is survived by his wife Catherine Blakley of Vernalis; one son, David Blakley of Oregon; two daughters, Betty Babeyea of Virginia and Kimberly Blakley of San Francisco; two brothers, Cecil Blakley of Arkansas and Claude Lewis Charmasson of Oklahoma, and five grandchildren. The Reverends John Dotson and Gary Grundman will officiate at the graveside service. A memorial service will follow at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Federated Church here. It is asked that remembrances be sent to the Federated Church.
