John Maring Borchard

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday for John Maring Borchard 
of Tampa, Fla., who died June 7 in a small-airplane accident.
Mr. Maring Borchard, 43, was born in Santa Maria and was part of the McGrath and 
Doud and Maring and Borchard clans, all farmers of the Oxnard Plain and the 
Conejo. He graduated from St. Michael�s Preparatory High School in Silverado and 
Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ariz., where he was a member of Sigma 
Chi Fraternity.
He moved to Florida in 1991 and built a strawberry brokerage and farming 
operation with his brothers, Jim and Patrick, and with the help and guidance of 
his family and business associates. He was a member of the Florida Strawberry 
Growers Association and also served on its board of directors.
Mr. Maring Borchard is survived by his wife, Melissa Gialames Borchard; five 
children, Austin Joseph Borchard, Kyler Christian Borchard, John Peter Borchard, 
Justin Patrick Borchard and Gigi Mary Borchard, all of Tampa; parents, Dolores 
Doud Borchard and John Vincent Borchard of Carpentaria and John George Maring of 
Salt Lake City, Utah; paternal grandmother, Helen Maulhardt Maring; and an uncle 
and aunt, Ed and Mini Maring, all of Patterson; as well as sisters, brothers, 
stepbrothers and 15 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Doud Borchard, who died in 1984.
Tuesday�s Mass will be celebrated at noon at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 
1300 E. Valley Road, in Montecito.
