Bowman Lloyd E 980423 p7 Lloyd Eugene Bowman, 89; Lloyd Eugene Bowman, one of Patterson's longtime residents, will be buried here Friday. A graveside service will be .held at the Patterson District Cemetery at 1 p.m. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Hillview Funeral Chapel. He died Tuesday at the San Luis Convalescent Hospital in Newman following a long illness. He was 89. A native of Fordville, N.D., he had been a Patterson resident since 1919 when his family moved to Patterson when he was 10 years old. His parents, Eugene and Augusta Bowman, moved into a large house on East Las Palmas Avenue, and Lloyd lived in the same residence for 79 years except when he was away at college. After graduation from Patterson High School in 1926, he attended Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. A football injury cut short his athletic career, but he continued to love sports of all kinds. In the early 1930s he played softball in the local leagues; often handling the pitching chores. He also loved camping with his grandchildren. He and his late brother Victor sold eggs for many years at their Las Palmas home where they operated Bowman Brothers Hatchery. He also farmed. He was a plant manager at Nulaid Foods in Ripon for 20 years. He was a longtime member of Patterson Covenant Church and was very well known in the community. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, LaVerne Bowman of Patterson; two sons, Lowell of Sacramento and Stanley Bowman of Piedmont; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
