Brizard Mary J 031213 p3 Mary Jane Brizard July 21, 1939 - Dec. 5, 2003 Services will be Friday in Big Oak Flat for former Patterson resident Mary Jane Brizard, 64, who died Dec. 5 in a single- car accident while returning home from a short trip to the market in Groveland. Three years ago, Mrs. Brizard and her husband, Alson Brizard, sold their Patterson farm, where they had raised walnuts and where she had a book distribution business. They quickly established Groveland as their home, and she became involved with several local charity endeavors, including Helping Hands, Thrift Shop and the South Side Senior Center. She also belonged to the local quilt club and worked as a seamstress from her home. In earlier years, the Brizards were active in the Sports Car Club of America, where Mrs. Brizard performed many duties as a volunteer race worker and official. She became the first race official to be in charge of sound monitoring and enforcement, a position that would grow in importance nationwide. She is survived by her husband of nearly 20 years; a son John Perry of Concord, N.C.; and a granddaughter, Brittany. Friday?s services will begin at 1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Big Oak Flat, 11347 Wards Ferry Road, in Big Oak Flat. Memorial contributions may be sent to South Side Senior Services Fund, c/o Sonora Area Foundation, P.O. Box 577, Sonora 95370, or to a charity of one's choice.
