Bucher Joe 480805 p1 Last Rites for Joe Bucher Will Take Place Today; Funeral services for Joe Bucher, 63, who drowned while fishing in the Sierra mountains Sunday, will take place today at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Catholic church in Modesto. Father John Mills will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus cemetery. Rosary services were last night at Shannon Chapel. According to the Tuolumne. county coroner, Bucher was completing a fishing excursion on Emigrant Lake, 80 miles east of Sonora, with his brother John of Modesto and several others. Evidently Bucher slipped into the lake from the bank where he was fishing. His faint cries for help were heard by his companions who were out on the lake and back at camp. They rushed to his assistance but were too late. After repeated dives into the water his body was recovered and taken to Kennedy Meadows. Bucher and his wife Annie came to their Orange Ave. home in May of 1944. He was a native of Switzerland.
