Burkeen Gene 001010 p4 Gene Burkeen, 71; Former Patterson resident Gene Burkeen died Oct. 3 in Vacaville, it has been learned here. He was 71 and had been ill only a short time. Born in Rails, Texas, he moved here with his family and attended local schools. He left Patterson in 1945 while still a teenager and spent a career in the military, eventually logging over 10,000 hours in the air as a flight engineer. He moved to Vacaville in 1966. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed working around his home. A graveside service will be held Thursday at I p.m. at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery near Gustine. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Jodee Burkeen of Vacaville, a son, Frank Burkeen of San Jose, and two grandchildren.
