Father of Local Man Dies at 56; Modesto � The father of a Patterson man died Friday in a Modesto hospital after a long
illness.  He was James W. Dafford, 56.  A son, Ronald Dafford, is a Patterson resident. A native of Kansas, he had lived
in Modesto since 1963.  He was a World War II veteran and a construction worker. A funeral service will be held at 1
p.m. today, Monday, at Sales Brothers Funeral Chapel in Modesto, with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park.  Survivors
include six sons, Robert, Russell, Raymond, Richard and Roger Dafford, all of Modesto, and Ronald Dafford of
Patterson; a daughter, Jeanne Kay Newton of Missouri, five sisters including Charlene Howe and Ruby Coleman of
Hughson; his father, Charles Spradley of Turlock, and four grandchildren.
