Patterson Irrigator, 10/28/2010, p 21 Maria Amelia Da Silva July 7, 1924 — Oct. 20, 2010 A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Tuesday, Oct. 26, for Maria Amelia Da Silva of Patterson, who died Oct. 20 at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. Mrs. Da Silva, 86, was a native of Pico, Azores, and moved to Patterson 14 years ago. A homemaker for 66 years, she was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Patterson. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, playing cards and camping. Mrs. Da Silva is survived by her sons, Manuel Fernando Melo and Joao Herberto Melo, both of Pico; daughter, Margarida Paulo of Patterson; brother, Antonio Gaspar of Pico; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joao Silveira De Melo. Tuesday’s Mass was celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and burial was in Patterson District Cemetery. Hillview Funeral Chapel, 450 W. Las Palmas Ave., handled arrangements.
