Edwards Rodney R 781102 p1 Services for R. Edwards Wednesday; Retired Patterson businessman and civic leader, Rodney Roderick Edwards, 81, died Monday at the local hospital after a long illness. A native of Los Gatos, he came to Patterson in 1910 with his family. His father, Robert, established Edwards Hardware on South Third Street at that time and Edwards worked in the store, taking charge when his father died in 1928. He continued to operate the business, which came to include a line of fine china and gifts, until retirement in Jun 1970. Edwards served as fire chief from 1920-28 and was a member of the first Patterson band which practiced in the upstairs of the store. He was a charter member of the planning commission and a veteran of World War I. He was a member of the Rotary Club and of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Mazye; a daughter, Jo Anne Miller of Atherton; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services for Edwards were held Wednesday afternoon at the Federated Church. Burial followed in Patterson District Cemetery. The family. requests that any remembrances go to a charity of choice.
