Hilmar Man Electrocuted At Vernalis; A well known Hilmar area farmer, Hilding William Elmquist, 54, was electrocuted
last Sunday noon when attempting to free a hot air balloon from high voltage lines near the Vernalis dragstrip. The
balloon, piloted by Raoul Nadeau of San Mateo, had made a landing in a field and then was blown into the power lines.
Nadeau climbed out safely but Elmquist was electrocuted when he began pulling at guy wires.  An ambulance company
from Modesto, on duty at the nearby strip where racing was underway, rushed him to a Modesto hospital where he was
dead on arrival.
