Erling Engen Is Buried Wednesday; Longtime Patterson resident Erling Riis Engen died Sunday at Memorial South
Hospital in Ceres after a long illness. He was 76. The native of Norway came to Patterson in 1926. He was a member of
the Norwegian Club of San Francisco, the Normamma Glee Club of Oakland, Sons of Norway of Modesto, Scottish Rite
of Stockton, and Patterson Masonic Lodge No.488. He was a retired electrical engineer who retired after working for
many years at the Del Puerto Hospital. A memorial service was held Wednesday afternoon at the Evans Funeral Chapel
here, with the Rev. Laurence Sailer and Masonic Lodge members participating. Burial followed in Patterson District
Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Ilo Engan of Patterson; two sons, Henry of Merced and Norman Engan of Fresno;
two sisters, Helga Olsen and Henrietta Pedersen, both of Norway; and four grandchildren.
