English Herbert E 010906 p10 Herbert Edwin English, 78; A service will be held here Friday for longtime Patterson resident and businessman Herbert Edwin English.. He died Monday at his Modesto home following a short illness. He was 78. Herb, as he was known to his many friends, was a native of Riverton, Iowa, the son of Roy and Edna English. As a young man his family moved to Patterson and he made this community his home for 55 years. During World War I (sic. II) he served as an infantryman with the US Army with tours in Alaska, France and Germany. He was awarded two bronze stars. He then returned to Patterson and owned several business including a partnership in Parros and English Shell Oil distributorship. He retired and moved to Modesto in 1985. He was a member of Patterson Masonic Lodge #488 and the Stockton Scottish Rite. He formerly belonged to the Patterson Lions Club for many years. A service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Hillview Funeral Chapel. Burial will be Monday, Sept. 10, at 10:30 an. at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery near Santa Nella. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the chapel. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Bea English of Modesto: two daughters, Pat Stornberg and her husband Eric of Davis and Pam English of Modesto; grandchildren Jeff Stomberg of Davis, Craig Stomberg and his wife Michelle of Davis, Ronald Monahan of Modesto and Elizabeth Beard of Modesto; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Bob English of Paterson; a sister, Doreen Tersigni of Ukiah; and a step- sister, Wanda Lytle of Patterson. He also leaves many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Remembrances may be sent to the Patterson Lions Club, P0 Box 452.
