Gainza Jessie Mrs 520904 p2 One Dies, Three Injured in Car-Truck Collision; One woman died and three persons are in Del Puerto Hospital following the collision of a car and truck one mile north and a mile east of Westley at River and Main Canal Roads Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Jessie Gainza, 51, Stockton succumbed of multiple injuries at Del Puerto Hospital the following morning. Jesusa Tapia, 24, Stockton, is showing steady improvement after being in critical condition with a broken back and a broken leg. Jeannette Sorhenda, 24, Stockton hotel waitress, is also showing improvement. She suffered a fractured pelvis. Pierre Oxoteguy, 40, driver of the car in which the three women were passengers, has a broken wrist and several other minor injuries. Clyde Blunt, 29, Modesto, driver of the loaded gravel dump truck, was thrown clear when the vehicle careened 75 feet through an abutment and off River Road into the canal. He was not injured. The truck was traveling north on River Road and had started to make a left turn on the other road. The passenger car was going east on Main Canal Road. No one seems to know what happened at the time, but there was a "terrific impact," according to Blunt. The car went about 60 feet after the collision and remained upright although in a demolished condition. Chet's ambulance made two trips between the hospital and the accident scene.
