Gant Beverly R 260326 p4 Tragic Death of Baby at Modesto Newman Index; Crows Landing, March 23 - A tragedy which proved a terrible shock to the entire West Side occurred in Modesto Thursday morning when Beverly Ruth, the three-year-old daughter of Mr.and Mrs. Vernon Gant, was drowned in an irrigation ditch near her home. Mrs. Gant is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Stanley while Vernon, now an attorney in Modesto, residing in Newman for several years. Beverly and her little sister, Marilyn, have made frequent visits here with their grandparents and had endeared themselves to the people of the community. Beverly was a sweet, curly headed little girl, lovable as could be, and a prime favorite with the little neighbor children with whom she played on her visits. The funeral was held from Shannon's funeral parlor in Modesto Saturday morning, Rev. A.C. Stevens officiating. Many people from Patterson, Crows Landing and Newman were present at the beautiful service and the banks of floral offerings testified to the love the little girl had aroused in the hearts of all who knew her.
