Ruth Garcia   July 18, 1924 -  Aug. 28, 2003
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Newman resident and homemaker Ruth Meza Garcia, 79, who died
Thursday at her home.  A native of Goshen, Mrs. Garcia lived in La Puente for more than 25 years before moving to
Newman five years ago.  She is survived by her daughters, Rose Ackley and Jenny Ponce, both of Newman, Lupe
Navarro of Richmond, Mercy Lucerro of Pinole and Nancy Westley of West Covina; a brother, Louie Meza of Fresno;
two sisters, Margaret Luna of Newman and Pieda Sutterley of Berkeley; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and
two great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Joaquin Podero Garcia; son Robert Ponce; and
daughter, Rita Gurule.  A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hillview Funeral Chapel, 450 W. Las Palmas
Av.e, where visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.  Thursday?s Mass will begin at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart
Catholic Church, 529 I St.  Interment will follow at Patterson District Cemetery.
