Anthony George Dies in Newman; A requiem mass was celebrated last Wednesday in St. Joachim s Catholic Church in
Newman for Antonio Furtado George, 80, who died Dec. 24 in a Newman hospital.  Interment was in the Hills Ferry
Cemetery. George, a native of Salao, Fayal, Azores, came to California 58 years ago and had been a West Side resident
for 54 of those years.  He started in the dairy business at Gustine in 1918, moving to Crows Landing in 1923 where he
was engaged in dairy and farming.  Upon retirement George moved to the Newman area. He is survived by his wife Maria
Amelia; three sons, Joe George of Merced, Tony and Manuel George of Crows Landing; two daughters, Mrs. Ida Souza
of Crows Landing and Mrs. Mary Ramos of Newman; and 15 grand-children. He was a member of the I.D.E.S. and S.E.S.
Lodges of Crows Landing.
