Gibbens Ellis 880505 p9 Al Gibbens Dies in San Andreas; A funeral service was held Monday in San Andreas for former Patterson businessman Ellis "Al" Gibbens. He died April 28 in San Andreas after a long illness. He was 65. Gibbens moved here in the late 1960's and was associated with C. C. Bessey in the Bessey Motor Co., the local Ford-Mercury dealership. About 1970 he founded the local Coast to Coast store, selling the business to Jack and Bette Hawke in the mid-1970s. He was one of several local businessmen who comprised a committee that founded the Patterson Apricot Fiesta in 1971. He and his family then returned to San Andreas where they had resided before moving to Patterson. There he was associated in a Ford-Mercury dealership with his father-in-law and brother-in-law. He was a member of the Patterson Masonic Lodge. A Masonic service was held Monday in San Andreas. Survivors include his wife Jeanne Gibbens of San Andreas; two daughters, Gail Gerard of San Andreas and Lynn North of Bakersfield; and five grandchildren.
