Gildea Aylene G 010619 p5 Aylene Genevieve Gildea, 83; Word has been received here of the death earlier this year of Aylene Genevieve Mullally' Gildea, whose family came to this area some 125 years ago. She died March 16 at the Novato Community Hospital in Novato. She was 83. Her grandmother, Lizzy Curran, was born in Milpitas and moved with her family to the hills west of Westley in the 1870s. when she was 6 months old. Lizzy s second son, Michael, was born on that ranch in 1890. He was Aylene s father. She was born in the Oak Flat ranch house on June 7, 1918, and spent her first several years living with her father and her mother Hannah, half-brother and a sister in the hills near Patterson. The family still owns a ranch some 10 miles north of where Mike was born. After two devastating years of drought, the family moved to San Francisco where Mike became a longshoreman and eventually a tavern owner. Aylene s father has the distinction of having a Diablo Range peak named after him Mike s Peak located on the family ranch. Aylene never again lived in the Patterson area, but she and her family spent many pleasant vacations on their property west of town. Many times they shopped here for food and supplies including ice, and sometimes had a libation at the Triangle Club, now the Frontier Club. She made her last visit to the ranch here some two years ago and valued memories of the place where she had grown up with her family. Her father s older brother Tom died in a mining accident in Nevada. His sister Rose was a rodeo performer and married into the Crow family of Crows Landing. Survivors include a son, Jim Gildea of Novato, and grandchildren Tom and Kaelah. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Gildea, and a son. Tom Gildea.
