She belonged to the Mexican American Student Association at the high school and was active in the annual High School Principal s Lip Synch Contest. Vizzolini said she was also very focused on academics. Very popular girl She was a very popular, well-respected young lady, Vizzolini said. "She was respected by both students and staff." Patterson Irrigator, 09/19/2002, p. 1 (Erica Nohemi Gonzalez [Fuentes] and Adrian Aguilar) Two Teens Die, 1 Hurt in Car Crash Two Patterson teenagers were killed and another injured late Tuesday afternoon in a solo car crash that took place east of the city. Identified by a Patterson High School official, Stanislaus County Coroner s office and, California Highway Patrol report, Erica Nohemi Gonzalez Fuentes, a senior at Patterson High School, and Adrian Aguilar, both 17, died at the accident scene. Rogelio Avalos, 17, and from Patterson, was injured. Fuentes and the two boys were eastbound on Prune Avenue in her two-door 1997 Toyota, traveling at approximately 90- 100 miles per hour. Car started to slide Fuentes failed to stop for a stop sign at Elm Avenue. After she crossed Elm, she lost control of the car. The rear of the car began to slide to the right, and then traveled off the paved portion of the roadway. The car traveled to the north dirt shoulder and slid approximately 40 to 50 feet, became airborne for approximately 40 to 50 feet, and landed on its rooftop upside down in a Turlock Irrigation District, TID, canal. Fuentes was trapped inside the car, and was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Rex Klein, deputy coroner for Stanislaus County, firefighters had to cut out Fuentes before she was pronounced dead. Evidence suggests Aguilar, sitting in the front passenger seat, was ejected from the car, and may not have had a seat belt on. Autopsy performed It also appears that he climbed up the steep hill before he died. An autopsy was performed yesterday, Wednesday, on both teenagers, and results may not be ready for four to six weeks. Avalos, a passenger in the left rear seat, crawled out of the car and walked to a nearby house for help. He sustained moderate to major shoulder and head injuries. He was transported by Medi-Flight to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. Funeral services for Fuentes and Aguilar are pending.
