Grisez John F 961217 p3 John Francis Grisez, 91; Final rites were held Monday for longtime Crows Landing resident and business leader John Jack Francis Grisez. He died last Thursday at his Crows Landing residence. He was 91. A native Of Santa Clara, he had lived in Crows Landing the past 60 years. He started as an agribusiness man on the West Side when he founded his bean-cleaning business in Westley in 1930. It was during World War II that he supplied beans to the military in 50-pound watertight bags he designed, and soon was selling retail bags of beans, rice and split peas under the Blue Crow label. He sold his Crows Landing Warehouse which bears his name in 1970. His civic involvement was very evident. He served as a trustee of the former Bonita School District in Crows Landing, and was a past member of the Crows Landing Lions Club and the Elks Lodge. He also served on the Crows Landing Fire Department and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A combined rosary and Mass was held Monday morning at Sacred Heart Church, with burial following in Hills Ferry Cemetery, Newman. Hillview Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include his wife Josephine Grisez of Crows Landing; two sons, Dr. James L. Grisez of Gilroy and Mike Grisez of Santa Cruz; a daughter, Joan Esposito of Manhattan Beach; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Irene Hearne of King City. He was preceded in death by a son, John Grisez. Remembrances should, be sent to the Sacred Heart Catholic School, 505 M St., Patterson.
