Grisez John P 950504 p5 John P. Grisez, 51; Modesto attorney John P. Grisez, who was born and raised on the West Side, died Sunday at Memorial Medical Center after a short illness. He was 51. A native of Patterson, he graduated from Orestimba High School in Newman and after serving in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, received a degree from the U.C. Davis Law School. He was awarded a bronze star in the military. He served a term on the Newman-Crows Landing school board and for three years was a member of the County Drug Advisory Board, serving as its chair in 1982-83. Before serving in the military, he earned a bachelor's degree with honors from Davis and a master's degree from Oregon State University. He worked in the Stanislaus County Public Defender's office for 12 years before entering private practice in 1985, specializing in defending indigent clients and earning a reputation as an outstanding defense attorney. He was a member of the California State Bar Association, the Modesto 500 Lions Club, Modesto Sunrise Rotary Club, and was a director of the Great Valley Museum. A memorial service will be held this Friday at the McHenry Chapel of Franklin & Downs in Modesto. Survivors include his parents, John and Josephine Grisez of Crows Landing; two brothers, Dr. James L. Grisez of Gilroy and Jay Michael Grisez of Santa Cruz; and a sister, Joan Esposito of Manhattan Beach.
