Jean Gute Dies at 78; Word has been received here of the death of former Patterson teacher Jean Louise Gute.  She
died July 12 at the Pacific Grove Convalescent Hospital.  She was 78.  She was a native of Hope, Idaho and
graduated from Hollywood Secretarial School, later earning a bachelor s degree in business administration from the
University of California at Berkeley.  She served as a corporal in the Women s Army Corp in New Guinea and the
Philippines during World War II and worked as a secretary at both the University of California at Los Angeles and
UC Berkeley as well as the Veteran s Administration in Sawtelle.  From 1962 to 1973, she taught business courses
at Patterson High School.
She was a member of the Worldwide Church of God, the California Teachers Association and the Retired Teachers
Association.  Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Rowland of Pacific Grove, a niece and a nephew.  Graveside
services will be held Friday at the Oakwood Cemetery in Santa Cruz.  Remembrances should be sent to the
Worldwide Church of God.
