Hammonds Ed and Beverly 050528 p9 Tuesday rites set for Edward/Beverly Hammon Ed Hammon Sept. 19, 1919 - May 25, 2005 and Beverly Hammon March 30, 1924 - May 25, 2005 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday for Edward Gerald Hammon, 85, and Beverly Frances Haskell Hammon, 81, who died Wednesday in Patterson of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Mr. Hammon was a native of Ontario and had lived in Patterson for 71 years. He was a 1938 graduate of Patterson High School and was a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II. He worked at Wells Fargo Bank for 35 years, and in the mid-1960s, he became manager there. Mr. Hammon had been a member of Patterson Rotary, Patterson Lions Club, 20/30 Club and Turlock Golf Country Club, and he served on the Del Puerto Hospital Board for 12 years. More recently, he was a member of the 50-Plus Club and the Patterson Genies, a genealogical club. Along with his wife, he was a member of the Patterson Senior Citizens board and was instrumental in the development and building of the Senior Center building in Patterson. Mrs. Hammon was a native of Modesto and had lived in Patterson for 54 years. She was a 1941 graduate of Stockton High School and attended Stockton Junior College and Stockton's College of the Pacific. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Hammon was a founding member of Patte-Kake Chapter of the Children's Home Society in Patterson in the mid-1950s and served as its president and secretary. Children's Home Society is a private adoption agency with chapters throughout the United States. She was a founding member of the Del Puerto Hospital Auxiliary board and a member of the Patterson 50-Plus Club and Patterson Garden Club, where she served as president six times and as secretary and trip planner. Mrs. Hammon was honored this month by the Preceptor Xi Phi sorority as its First Lady of the Year. Both are survived by their children, Bret Hammon of Morgan Hill and Janelle McGuire of Patterson, and six grandchildren. Mrs. Hammon is also survived by a sister, Betty Gallo of Stockton. Tuesday's Mass will begin at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 529 I St., Patterson. Burial will be private. Services will be conducted by Hillview Funeral Chapel, Patterson. Remembrances may be made to a favorite charity.
