Harrison Doris R 980702 p5 Doris Roberts Harrison, 78; Longtime Patterson resident Doris Roberts Harrison died early Wednesday at her residence. She was 78. Born in Modesto, she had lived here 55 years, serving as a special education teacher in the Patterson Unified School District for 20 years. She was a graduate of San Jose State College and completed graduate studies at the University of the Pacific. Mrs. Harrison was also very active in the community. She helped to found the Patterson Bridge Club and participated in for over 50 years. In addition she was a past president of the Patterson Study Club, a member of the Turlock Golf and Country Club, as well as the Federated Church. One of her main interests for a number of years was the AFS program. She introduced the program in the Central Valley and was its area representative for many years. In addition her family hosted AFS students for a year from both Germany and Finland, and her son and both daughters went abroad under the sponsorship of the local program. With her husband she also was an avid worldwide adventurer. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Hillview Funeral Chapel. Private burial is planned. Survivors include her husband, Lawrence "Lodi" Harrison of Patterson; a son, William Harrison of Modesto; two daughters, Laurie Harrison Dayton of Nevada City and Adele Connors of Kennewick, Wash.; as well as her German AFS 'daughter,' Marianne Syndicus of Palo Alto; four grandchildren; a brother, William Edward Roberts, Jr. of Fort Worth, Tex.; and a sister, Ruthadele Hickey of San Jose.
