Heckendorf Rebecca C 830310 np Daughter of Early Pioneers Dies in Modesto; A private graveside service will be conducted today, Thursday, at the Acacia Cemetery in Modesto for Rebecca Cox Heckendorf, 75. She died in a Modesto hospital Monday after a long illness. A public viewing was held Wednesday evening and will continue today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Franklin and Downs McHenry Chapel Mrs. Heckendorf was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Cox of Westley. She was born on the site where the city of Patterson was later founded. Along with her late husband, Marvin L. Heckendorf, she owned and operated the People s Cash Store on Tenth Street in Modesto. She also was a former teacher in the Modesto city schools. She was a 1926 graduate of Patterson Union fligh School and a 1930 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. She was a member of Omega Nu, American Association of University Women, and of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Stanislaus County, as well as a past member of the county Family Service Agency. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Dan Collin, grandson Sean and granddaughters Noelle and Cathleen, all of Tauranga, New Zealand; a sister, Margaret Funk of Berkeley; two brothers, Stanley and Stewart Cox of Westley, and numerous nieces and nephews in the area.
