Hedrick Charles 380204 p8 Newman, Feb. (Specia1) Man Struck By Car Dies From Injuries Sunday; Two tragedies within the space of a week entered the life of Mrs. Eva Savage, when her brother, Charles Hedrick. 61 years of age, passed away in a Modesto hospital Sunday morning as the result of fatal injuries received late Friday evening when he was struck by a car. The accident occurred on the Newman-Gustine highway. just north of the Merced County line, at about 10:43 p.m., according to Night Officer Ralph Parker, who was called to the scene. Hedrick was walking toward Newman. on the right hand side of the pavement, when a car driven by Mrs. Cora C. Anderson, 27, of Turlock, traveling, in the same direction, crashed into him. The statements made by Mrs. Anderson to Highway Patrolmen E. L. McCabe and Kenneth Olinger, who were summoned to investigate, were to the effect that two cars approaching from the other direction momentarily blinded her and that she was slowing down at the moment of impact, although she saw Hedrick only an instant before then. The injured man was brought to the Newman Hospital for emergency treatment and then taken in a Modesto ambulance to a hospital in that city, where it was found that he had a fractured skull and severe internal injuries. Hedrick had lived on the West Side for many years and until recently was in charge of hill land owned by his late brother-in-law, Gorner Savage, who passed away on Tuesday of last week. The. shock of the two deaths was a severe blow to Mrs. Savage.
