Hendy Glen 840412 np Service Set Here Friday for Glen Hendy; A funeral service will be held here for longtime Patterson resident Glen Hendy, who died Tuesday in a Turlock convalescent hospital at age 88. He had been ill for some time. A native of Minnesota, he moved with his family to the Westport area in 1897 when he was 2 years old. He was the youngest of 11 children. He attended elementary school in Westport and Modesto High School, then worked for the Oakland Cream Co. in Crows Landing managed by his brother-in-law, F.A. Patchett. After duty in the Navy in World War I, he worked in Patchett s garage in Newman before coming to Patterson to manage the company s branch here, living in the Hotel Del Puerto. Hendy then joined with Walter Sorenson to purchase the Chevrolet agency on South Third Street from Judge "Shorty" Gilbert. Hendy continued to own the business until he retired in 1955. He and his first wife, the former Lana Bock, then traveled and he operated an insurance business. She died in 1962. He was a member of the Federated Church here and a former member of the Patterson Rotary Club. In 1971 he married Letha Zachery of Hilmar, who preceded him in death in 1983. The service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Evans Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Hills Ferry Cemetery, Newman. Survivors include two daughters, Marion Butts of Gustine and Glenna Hansen of Arnold, plus four grandchildren and five great - grandchildren. The family prefers that remembrances be sent to a favorite charity.
