Hicks, James D 060719 p12 James Downey Hicks March 31, 1925 � July 14, 2006 A funeral service will be Thursday for James Downey Hicks of Patterson, who died Friday at his home. Mr. Hicks, 81, was a native of Oklahoma and had lived in Patterson 75 years. He was co-founder and co-owner of H & M Trucking in Patterson. Before he helped found the trucking company, he was a rancher in Vernalis. He served as an airplane mechanic in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. Mr. Hicks was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 488 in Patterson. He was also a longtime, generous supporter of the Patterson Apricot Fiesta and a longtime San Francisco Giants fan. Mr. Hicks is survived by his wife, Frances Hicks of Patterson; son, Jim Hicks, of Coto De Caza; daughter, Carol Costa of Modesto; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, B. F. Hicks and Flora Hicks, and his 13 brothers and sisters. Thursday's graveside service will begin at 10 a.m. at Patterson District Cemetery, 10800 Highway 33, in Patterson. Visitation will be observed from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hillview Funeral Chapel, 450 W. Las Palmas Ave., in Patterson. Memorial contributions in Mr. Hicks' name may be sent to Salvation Army, P.O.
