Five Killed, 1 Injured in Fiery I-5 Collision; Five people were killed and a sixth was in critical condition Wednesday
morning after a fiery collision between a gasoline tanker and a car on Interstate 5 at the Stuhr Road/Newman exit.  The
accident happened about 3:40 a.m. Dead at the scene were Gary Barrs, 27, Alaska; his sister Donna Holt, 29, Fremont;
her daughter Kim Holt, 9, Fremont; another daughter, Randi McPherson, 4, Fremont; and Linda Lacetti, 30, Fremont.
The truck driver, who was transported in critical condition to the University of California/Davis Medical Center and was
not, at press time, expected to live, is from Bakersfield, according to a Los Banos California Highway Patrol spokesman.
Approximately 40 firemen and paramedics from Patterson, Westley, Newman and Crows Landing, and the Del Puerto
Fire Station of the federal Department of Forestry responded. "The tanker, the car, grass, trash � everything � was on
fire," Patterson Fire Chief Dick Gaiser reported. After the accident, the southbound lane of I-5 was closed and traffic
detoured around the Westley exit.  Cause of the accident is still under investigation and the name of the truck driver is
being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
