Patterson Irrigator, 08/19/2010, p 14 Dr. Jacob Holtzman April 1915 -- August 2010 Dr. Jacob Holtzman, 95, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Kaiser Hospital in Modesto CA. He was born in Chicago, raised in Denver, Colorado, and graduated from Colorado State at Fort Collins, where he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. Jacob trained many state veterinarians in Stanislaus County. He served from 1942 to 1946 in the United States Army in Europe during World War 11. He was a charter member of the Modesto Cameilia Society and served two terms as president. He was a certified judge by the American Camellia Society and was an amateur hybridizer with two registered award winning camellia varieties: “Mikey B” and “Eleanor Holtzman”. He was a member of the Patterson Garden Club, 50 Plus Club, and the Forever Young Dance Club. Jacob taught entomology to the 4-H Club and diving to kids at the Bonita Pool. He was an avid gardener and an heirloom seed saver. He also loved dancing, Big Band music, and playing the clarinet. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Holtzman of Crows Landing, CA, his three daughters, Margaret and husband Charles Tracy of Modesto, Becky and husband Dan Parker of Modesto, and Lenora Boeddiket of San Jose. Jacob also leaves behind four grandchildren: Michael and Jonathan Soeddik, Amahda and Bradley Parker. In lieu of flowers you may donate to your favorite charity in Jacob’s memory.
