Hotchkiss David W 521023 p1 Man Dies Two Days After Accident on Canyon Road; David W. Hotchkiss, 46, of San Jose died at Del Puerto Hospital Saturday afternoon as the result of an auto accident Thursday morning at 10 o'clock eight tenths of a mile west of the Stanislaus County line on the Del Puerto Canyon road to San Jose. He died of internal hemorrhages caused by ruptured arteries near the lungs. Hotchkiss, who had been mining quick silver in Adobe Valley near the Navy bombing base 25 miles west of here, had apparently started driving to San Jose when his pickup turned over and came to rest on its wheels. He drove about five miles back to the Navy base where his pickup developed mechanical trouble. Sailors brought him to his trailer house, and they suggested he see a doctor. He refused, and they dropped in on him Friday morning and again made the suggestion. He was found in a coma Saturday morning by his partner, J. C. Del Ponte of San Jose. He was brought to the hospital and died one hour later. Hotchkiss is survived by two brothers in San Jose, a brother in Pasadena and two sisters. His body was shipped to San Jose Tuesday for burial.
