Hurner Helen O 050608 p17 Memorial service set for Helen Olga Hurner Aug. 3, 1908 -- June 2, 2005 A memorial service will take place June 15 for cattle rancher Helen Olga Hurner, 96, of San Antonio Valley, who died Thursday at her home. Mrs. Hurner was born in San Jose and had lived in the San Antonio Valley her whole life. She was a self-employed cattle rancher for 75 years. Mrs. Hurner was a member of the National Cattlemen's Association, California Cattlemen's Association, National Cattlewomen's Association, California Cattlewomen's Association and Santa Clara County Cattlewomen's Association. She was a charter member and honorary member of the Mt. Hamilton Range Improvement Association. She enjoyed horseback riding and roping until age 93. She was interviewed by the Gene Autry Heritage Museum, nominated to the Cowgirl Hall of Fame, and interviewed for Range Magazine for being a red meat survivor. First Baptist Church of Patterson is planning a Helen Hurner Christian Music Festival later this year in her memory. Mrs. Hurner is survived by her son, Keith Bernhard Hurner and his wife, Irene; daughter, Ruth Stoddard and her husband, Garry; and daughter-in-law Judy Hurner, all of the San Antonio Valley; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernhard "Mix" Hurner, who died in 1994; her son, Ronald Hurner; granddaughter Nichole Hurner; a brother and four sisters. The June 15 memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. at the Paul Gerber Memorial Cemetery, 45385 San Antonio Valley Road, San Antonio Valley, in Livermore.
