Newton James Mrs 490308 p8 Mother of Mrs. G. R. Searl Dies in Illinois; Funeral services will take place this morning in Berkeley for Mrs. James Newton Lester, pioneer resident of the Denair and Turlock district and mother of Mrs. Garner Searl, of Patterson. Mrs. Newton died Saturday in Illinois while enroute from New York to Berkeley, where she has made her home the past years. The Widow of James Newton Lester, she was born in Illinois in 1871. In 1892 she married her husband and in the early 1900's they moved to the Turlock district where Newton engaged in extensive land developments. He was a minister in the Christian Church and died in Berkeley in 1914. Mrs. Newton Lester leaves her three daughters, Mrs. Geraldine L. Searl, of Patterson, Mrs. Harry W. Thompson, of Berkeley, and Mrs. Telete E. Lawrence, of New York. She was a graduate of Eureka College and a member of the National Board of the Christian Board of Missions. Last rites were this morning at the First Christian Church in Berkeley.
