Santa Cruz Funeral for Pioneer; Funeral services were held Tuesday in Ferguson Mortuary, Santa Cruz, for an early day
Patterson resident, Mrs. Lucy Bartch Nickert, 73, who died Friday in a Santa Cruz hospital after a short illness.  A private
interment service followed in Oakwood Memorial Park, Santa Cruz. The Santa Cruz Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star
officiated at both services. Mrs. Nickert was born here and raised in the home of her uncle, Fred Bartch, a pioneer
rancher,.who came to this area in the 1870 s and eventually owned extensive land holdings.  He was regarded as a leading
citizen in the West Side. A 30 year resident of Santa Cruz, Mrs. Nickert is survived by two nephews, Gene Slayton of San
Jose and Donald Slayton of Pleasant Hill
