Final Rites for John Souza Nunes; John Souza Nunes, 75, a native of the West Side for the past 53 years, passed away
Saturday afternoon at Eden Hospital in Castro Valley following a lengthy illness.  He had lived on Apricot Ave. here the
past 10 years. Services were held Tuesday morning at Davis-Hansen Chapel in Newman.  Requiem Solemn High Mass
was held later in the morning at St. Joachim's Catholic church.  Rosary was recited Monday evening at Davis-Hansen
Chapel in Newman.  Interment was at Hills Ferry Cemetery. He was a member of Council No. 68, UPEC, Newman;:
IDES No. 45 of Newman, and SES of Patterson. He is survived by his wife Anna Lopes Nunes of Patterson; two
daughters, Diolinda Harris of Tracy, and Mary D. Murtos or Los Banos; five sons, John S. Nunes Jr., of Oakland; Manuel
E. Nunes and Antone W. Nunes of Newman, Joseph R. Nunes of Crows Landing and Alvin E.  Nunes of Tracy; three
sisters, Mary D. Souza of New Bedford, Mass.; Josephine Nunes of San Jose and Theresa Gallega of St. George, Azore
Islands.
